🛃 Import Taxes & Estimated Delivery Costs
Last reviewed: July 2026
We understand that unexpected import charges can be worrying. Most parcels are delivered normally after any applicable import charges are paid. The estimates below can help you understand the possible cost before ordering.
⚡ Quick Estimate
💳 What may be charged?
Orders are shipped from Japan. Depending on the destination, the recipient may need to pay:
- Import VAT, GST or sales tax
- Customs duty
- A postal or carrier customs-handling fee
Unless specifically stated at checkout, these charges are not included in your order total.
📮 EMS / Postal Shipping Available by Request
We are gradually reintroducing EMS shipping to selected countries while updating our delivery system to reflect recent changes in import rules and carrier procedures.
EMS is not yet shown as a standard checkout option. If you would prefer EMS, please contact us before ordering or shortly after placing your order. We will check availability for your destination and let you know whether any shipping adjustment is required.
📮 EMS / Postal Delivery
- Usually lower customs-handling fees

- Customs-handling or duty-payment fees may be higher
- A remote-area surcharge may apply to some addresses
🇪🇺 European Union
For most EU orders, import VAT, a temporary customs duty, and a postal or carrier handling fee may be collected before or upon delivery.
From July 1, 2026: a temporary €3 customs duty generally applies to low-value imports of up to €150. More than one €3 charge may apply if the parcel contains items under different customs classifications.
| Order total | Rough estimate |
|---|---|
| €50 | approx. €15–27 |
| €75 | approx. €20–34 |
| €100 | approx. €25–42 |
| €150 | approx. €38–57 |
🇮🇹 Italy example
Italy normally applies 22% import VAT.
For a typical one-pair order totalling approximately €60–65 including shipping, the amount collected on import may be approximately:
€18–30
🇺🇸 United States
Low-value commercial imports are not currently automatically duty-free. For a typical Heiwa Slipper order sent by DHL:
| Goods value | Possible import and DHL fees |
|---|---|
| ~US$45 | approx. US$25–45 |
| ~US$70 | approx. US$30–55 |
| ~US$100 | approx. US$35–65 |
🇨🇦 Canada
Japan-origin products may qualify for reduced or zero customs duty under CPTPP. However, Canadian GST/HST and a carrier customs-handling fee may still be charged.
For a typical order totaling around C$100, the amount collected on import may be approximately:
C$15–35
Canada Post’s postal handling fee is generally lower and more predictable than express-carrier customs fees, although delivery may take longer.
📧 How will I pay?
The delivery carrier or local postal service may contact you by email, SMS, telephone, online tracking or a delivery notice. Please respond promptly to avoid delays or return of the parcel.
If import charges are refused and the parcel is returned, shipping, return, customs and related carrier costs may be deducted from the refund, except where otherwise required by law.
