Slippers in Leather, Good Breathability

Slippers in Leather, Good Breathability

Breathable Leather Slippers

Genuine leather indoor slippers have several advantages.
One advantage is good breathability.

Some slippers worn in indoor living spaces have refined design and a soft feeling but poor breathability, so ultimately they cannot be called comfortable. They are also unfavorable for foot health and hygiene.

The majority of breathable indoor slippers are made of natural plant materials such as hemp or they are open toed summer versions. Those can be used comfortably during the summer but can cause your feet to be cold in the autumn and winter. In that regard, leather slippers are characterized by a warm feeling with breathability and heat retention, but without any stuffiness.

In Japan, it is said that "leather breathes." Collagen fibers that make up leather are hydrophilic with many fine spaces, and this porosity is a characteristic of leather that enables comfortable footwear. Leather also absorbs and releases moisture according to changes in humidity.

The metaphor of "leather breathes" is used to describe the function of leather absorbing and releasing moisture. This factor is the secret of comfort for leather slippers. That is why leather slippers are less stiff compared to artificial leather slippers.

*We started local production in the suburbs of Tokyo, Japan using leather, a byproduct of the meat industry, and vegetable tannin in a locally-oriented ecological tanning process that reduces the environmental burden without using toxic substances to produce the TOKYO leather slipper. We will also continue making products using vegan or recycled materials.
