(1) About the U.S. tariff exemption quota
The U.S. has a duty-free quota of US$800, known as Section 321, for imports from abroad.
This exemption is based on the amount of imports per person per day.
If an importer makes multiple purchases and the customs value exceeds $800 in one day, the excess is subject to tax.
This duty-free allowance is widely used, but it is up to the importer to decide whether or not to use it.
It is the importer's decision whether or not to use this exemption, so the importer must notify the import customs broker of their intention.
If the importer uses Section 321 to clear customs and the declared value is within $800 per day, no duty will be charged.
